Pat Smythe loves color and wants to portray a pleasant, vibrant, image in her paintings.

Pat studied Art and Graphic Design at Pratt Institute and later typography and printmaking at the Art Academy in Stuttgart, Germany. For the past 30 years Pat’s career has been devoted to book publishing. As a book designer, she has been an Art Director in NYC at Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich; Macmillian and Pearson.

Now she has turned her full attention to watercolor painting. In 1997 she began studying watercolor painting at the Ridgewood Art Institute with Charles Brandenburg. She has also taken painting workshops in Italy and North Carolina. Landscapes are her favorite subject, but she has begun a new venture, painting dog portraits and house portraits.
She is a member of the North East Watercolor Society.
